TITLE: SUPERTOPIA!
HIGH CONCEPT: This graphic novel, a superhero musical set in Philadelphia, PA, presents a blue-collar hero and his friends as they strive to protect the city from a corrupt government, the ULT. USA, that has outlawed superheroes and all marginalized people.
Narrative Arc: Set in Philadelphia in the near future, and told by X13 and 2UV, robot witnesses, who are introduced in the PRELUDE, we meet The Builder, a kindhearted Italian American handyman from Fishtown and his best friend, Black Angel, a gay alien who is a suave and fun. They are the kind of unlikely friends that can sit around eating a quick cereal or roam the streets while challenging each other’s ethics, purpose, and community impact. In their quest to become true heroes, however, they realize that they cannot do it alone.
Their best possible companions in this endeavor share a tumultuous past that The Builder must overcome if they are going to be successful since Cutie Pie, a Hispanic American paralegal and his estranged ex-wife, is now dating Viking Woman, an Asian-American transgendered lawyer. However, they are the only hope in saving Philadelphia—now Supertopia—from the corrupt First Family of the Ult. States of America and their Truth-Protector army. Once the corrupt Ult. States of America moves in to capture and euthanize the citizens of Philadelphia who have been infected with the triangle (i.e. LGBTQ-like) virus, near the end of ACT I, the Builder and Black Angel combine their powers to transform the city into a fortress to protect everyone.
In ACT II, Philadelphia, now known as Supertopia, becomes a sustainable paradise filled with individuals who empathize, care, and work together to build a positive social structure. However, the First Family, led by President Wonderful, closely watches for developments until Black Angel makes a questionable decision, which gives them a reason to infiltrate the city. An apocalyptic battle results, and the valiant team of Black Angel, the Builder, Viking Woman, and Cutie Pie are defeated by the First Family and their Truth Protector army. Black Angel then finds himself exiled to the Mirror Realm, where he is given a second chance to not only save the world from the First Family but also enlighten newer superheroes, like Fabulosa Jones, to build a better future.
THE TWIST: Once the corrupt Ult. States of America Truth-Protectors move in to capture and euthanize the citizens of Philadelphia who have been infected with the triangle (i.e., LGBTQ-like) virus, near the end of ACT I, the Builder and Black Angel combine their powers to transform the city into a fortress to protect everyone.
